Apple To Shut Down Beats Music Streaming Service

apple-beats
Insiders at Beats and Apple say that the tech giant will discontinue Beats’ relatively new streaming service.
Last week, we learned that Dr. Dre’s veritable unicorn of an album, previously thought to be titled Detox, will probably arrive under another title, and today comes the news that you may not be able to stream said album on Dre’s own streaming service. Beats Music, a subscription-based streaming service announced by Dre and Jimmy Iovine in January (and bought by Apple in May), will be shutting down in the near future, according to a TechCrunch report.

Citing five sources, some of whom are “prominent employees at Apple and Beats,” the tech site reports that:
“Many engineers from Beats Music have already been moved off the product and onto other projects at Apple, including iTunes. It’s not clear when exactly Jimmy Iovine and Dr Dre’s music service will be shut down or what Apple will do with streaming, but every source with knowledge of the situation that we talked to agreed Apple plans to sunset the Beats Music brand.”
For the time being, this does not include the headphones that made the Beats brand famous. Stay tuned for more developments.
